If you are wary of downloading .zip files you can download the PDF’s straight from my other site:

Là-Bas is a board game for 2 players.

To win you must become the most decadent poet of Paris, but beware, you are being hunted by an unnameable evil from the outer dark!

Everything you need to play is included in the .zip file. You will also need three tokens of a different color and one dice.

This is a free version. It has been test-played but may still have some rough edges here and there. I will continue to refine it as time permits. Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions and/or questions.

An expanded, possibly color version will be made available for purchase if enough people enjoy and express interest in this version.

This board game was inspired in part by 19th and early 20th century weird tales such as the works of Algernon Blackwood (especially “The Willows”), W.H. Hodgson, H.P. Lovecraft and Robert W. Chambers. Other sources of inspiration were the lives of the decadent poets and writers such as Baudelaire, J.K. Huysmans.

In the game, the protagonists want to become the most decadent writers in Paris. But unbeknownst to them, they are being hunted by an evil power from the outer dark. The deeper they sink into their decadence and the more they dabble in the occult, the greater the danger becomes. Of course, when things get too real, quickly repenting and converting to Catholicism is an option… O yes, being the decadents that they are, they are drunk on Absinthe all the time.

The Print & Play version as it should look after a bit of cutting & pasting:

Nieuws

When a blog isn’t in use for more than a year you might think that the person behind it has stopped doing anything interesting. In this case however, it just meant that I had better things to do, such as writing a new book, designing boardgames and rediscovering the world with my young daughter. Now that certain projects are finally reaching completion new things will be appearing here soon, starting with the possibility to download my boardgame ‘Là-Bas’ in a Print & Play version. A new post will appear here soon with the downloads.

Proofreading version of my new book. Either the best or the worst thing I have written so far.
LABASEen bordspel?

A boardgame? Yes, a boardgame. I was getting tired of writing dark books so I made a dark boardgame.
